Anne has been up to all good, again! Inspired while watching her daughter paint her nails with a newsprint transfer technique, she came up with this easy method for transferring any newsprint image to ourglass tiles. We might have to resubscribe to the paper edition of our newspaper again – this is too much fun!
If you are working with clear nail polish – you can make mutiple clear layers for collages and add depth – similar to glass painting, layers are applied foreground first, then apply secondary or background layers.
For instance, in the purple tile sample above, the cartoon dog image was applied to the back of the tile first, followed by a second layer of text, both clear.
Anne colorized her finished clear pieces with a back coating of nail polish.
These finished tiles can be transformed into jewelry instantly by inserting the finished tile into our tray pendants and bezel bases with our double sided clear adhesive film 800P, or a dab of e-6000 clear adhesive.
DIY Nail Polish Glass Tile Image Transfer Recipe from eCrafty.com
- Coat one side of clear glass tile or cabochon domewith clear nail polish.
- Let dry completely.
- Thoroughly wet your piece of newspaper art/text in rubbing alcohol.
- Press wet newspaper against the nail polish on the glass tile for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Peel the paper off. The image should stay on the nail polish.
- Let dry completely before applying colored (or clear) nail polish to the back if desired.
In the second sample below, Anne chose faces from the Sunday funnies and other newsprint illustrations to transfer line drawings directly onto the glass. How cool is this, anyway? 🙂
