iv'e never heard him use it. give me an example of the song he uses it in. that C to C sharp looks like it realy kills the vibe of the first four degrees' phrygian dominant vibe

Ok I can play pretty complex riffs or whatever, but I decided I wanna f*cken get off my arse and finally learn some scales for improve soloing and sh*t. I don't care for learning other peeps solo [unless its necessary], but basically I'm asking of you that someone can just show me a link or a post of maybe the most used scales for soloing around, like the most used ones ever, I'm not interested in like crazy rare or experimental, cos I just wanna rip out so fast notes that sound cool I'd like it alot if someone could post them in tab form. Thanks alot in advance!
Same as the run in Decapitated's "Names", but the actual solo in that song has some triplet/weird fast patterns that I haven't mastered yet, for now I just wank over that pattern a lot. Mixes in really well with basic arpeggio sweeps like the one in "Dechristianize".
I improvise a lot over that.

from what it looks like tht is phrygian dominant without the sixth degree
so you have this D------------------6-7-9-(10)-------- A------------5-7-8--------------- E--4-5-7-(8)-----------------------
just add the C after the B in the parentheses marked there ya go

Here's a little practice thing I made up that might help people get faster with their playing, or simply warm up. It's played exactly how it's showed -- just start back at the beginning right after you end. Alternate back and forth between down and up strokes for picking (unless you want to try all down strokes, but that might slow it down a bit). Right now, my fastest speed is 210 BPMs. After that, I end up screwing up the third time around or so.
Here's a couple cool exercises that combines sweeping with chromatic, a techniques used by Becker/Friedman:
Code:
|-------13-14-15-16p13------------------------------------||----15----------------15----------------------------------||-16----------------------16-13----------13-16-15-14-13--||-------------------------------15----15-------------------||----------------------------------17----------------------||----------------------------------------------------------|This one sounds a bit jazzy ~ ~~|--------------9-12-11-10-9-----------------11-14-13-12-11--||-----------10---------------------------12-------------------||-----6-/11------------------------8-/13----------------------||---7----------------------------9----------------------------||-9---------------------------11------------------------------||-------------------------------------------------------------|
Man, I get real sweaty after I wack my dong. Yeah, cause I headbang while I do, and I can't really "Jump" (haha ) like VanHalen in a dorm room, so I just walk back and forth....haha a couple days ago I was jumping up and down on my bed, with my pants down and my roommate came in when I wasn't looking, hahaha.

There are no scales suited to Death Metal in all 21 pages of this thread.

Death metal mainly utilises the following scales:
Natural minor Harmonic minor Diminished Half-whole Whole-half Chromatic
I can't be arsed tabbing them as they've all been previously tabbed in this thread.

Got two sweep questions.
1. Is it best to attack the strings harder with a stiff hand, or keep it loose? Both of these methods work, but It seems clearer if I attack pick harder...but that's a pain in the ass.
2. When I'm sweeping in downstrokes, and planning to sweep back up, should I end my last note with an upstroke and keep going, or just end with a downstroke and start back up?

im really loose in the and i pick rather gently and the ONLY thing i move is my wrist and possible fingers, and smothly let it roll.
2 prolly end with a downstoke and come up.

Sweeping Issues
I've been trying to pick up sweeping and i'm having a few problems. all the videos i have watched don't really tell you much. i was wondering if anybody has any tips. My problem seems to be ( i think) is that i'm not sure how to mute the strings correctly, they're either too muted and it sounds stupid, or not enough then i end up just getting alot of string noise. And what part of my hand should be muting the strings? Also does a lower action help with sweeping? And does anyone have any good tips on how to build up speed + coordination? Is there one decent video either on dvd or something that actually really explains all the aspects of sweeping?

ionian and major are the same thing. there are 7 modes in a major scale (in order) 1. Ionian (major scale) 2. Dorian 3.Phrygian 4.Lydian 5.Mixolydian 6.Aeolian (minor scale) 7.Locrian
I've been through the whole 22 pages of this thread and found a lot of useful stuff. However, since I'm still a beginner, I couldn't understand certain parts. So, I was wondering whether you guys knew of any good books and / or videos that I could get to help me learn the basics. So far, users here have mentioned Petrucci's "Rock Discipline" dvd and The Guitar Grimoire, among others. Are there any other titles you'd like to recommend? Thanks!

Hey! Is this forum still active? 'cause I don't see much activity these days! :/
Dystopia: Since 2008 I've found books which are used in tuition courses like "Guitar Soloing" by Daniel Gilbert & Beth Marlis (Musicians Institute).
I also play bass and bought Alex Webster's book which is straight to the point and not complicated.
